EMS Cairn Hill

Cairn Hill

The Cairn Hill Open Cut Mine is located approximately 55 kilometres south-east of the opal mining town of Coober Pedy in South Australia’s far north region. IMX Resources engaged Exact Contracting to provide an all-inclusive mining operation at Cairn Hill, which included site establishment, open cut mining activities, crushing and screening, ore haulage and rail car loading.

The initial establishment of the site included the construction of an elevated pad and workshop for mobile plant and equipment in addition to a 65 kilometre haul road to the Rankin Dam rail siding. Exact Contracting was also responsible for carrying out the full scope of in pit mining activities including drill and blast, ore mining and haulage which was achieved using 200t excavators and a fleet of CAT 777 dump trucks.

The ore was carted to the ROM and crushed using Nordberg mobile crushing circuits.

The ore was then hauled to the rail siding with a fleet of prime movers in semi-quad configuration. Exact Contracting maintained all roads (including the haul road) and the rail siding used by IMX Resources.
