Exact have collaborated with Aurecon to deliver 125km of high-quality road along the Carpentaria Highway. The design and construction of Stage 1 (48kms) and stage 2 (77kms) of the Carpentaria Highway Upgrade was to replace the existing single-lane seal with a dual-lane 10m wide carriageway, vastly improving the safety of users and decreasing travel time for members of remote communities.
The road upgrade was designed with the use of LIDAR surveying and hydrological modelling to ensure that the drainage installed and upgraded was able to increase the flood immunity throughout the wet season.
Key achievements throughout the project include:
- 23 culverts, consisting of 3 culvert reconstructions, 7 culvert extensions and the installation of 13 new culverts.
- 21 cement-stabilised floodway's, helping to increase flood immunity in the area.
- 2 new truck parking bays.
- 5 access road intersections, guided by local landholders to ensure most effective location and use of local resources.
- Lime stabilisation of base course to address high plasticity.
